McAllen Grace Brethren Church et al v Jewll, 2016

In June 13, 2016, the Department of Interior (DOI) settles with the over 400 American Indian plaintiffs in McAllen Grace Brethren v Jewell. Representing the DOI, DOI Secretary S.M.R. Jewell agreed that the plaintiffs in the case, pursuant to the terms set forth in the DOI's 1975 Morton Policy could "possess, carry, use, wear, give, loan, or exchange among other Indians, without compensation, all federally protected birds, as well as their parts or feathers." Thus an undisclosed number of tribe members won access to using eagle feathers in their Lipan Apache ceremonial practices.
